| Vermont ENA Report |
Vermont ENA Report 2008
Vermont ENA has had a productive year. Mother Nature frowned on us with winter storms and summer floods that impacted attendance at our council meetings.
Here are some 2008 Vermont ENA highlights.
• Our membership has increased and has fluctuated in the 160’s for the past year. Our goal has to break the 170 mark and we did that in November.
• We were allotted 5 delegates to the ENA General Assembly in Minneapolis. June Stacey, Matt Choate, Maureen Heyder, Candy Hamacher and Deb Bach were selected to represent Vermont. ( Unfortunately Deb Bach was unable to attend)
• Our Bylaws and Strategic Plan were reviewed with no substantial changes. Both of these documents are posted on the Vermont ENA website. At national ENA’s recommendation, we adopted policies related to Conflict of Interest and Public Disclosure.
The Vermont ENA website has a whole new look. Our original domain license expired this year so we made the transition from “.com” to “.org” Check us out at

• Our annual conference was held on November 7 this year. The initial feedback was positive. Attendees had fun, learned a lot, and enjoyed the opportunity to network.
• Injury Prevention Programs are being offered around the state and the THINK Sign Program continues to draw attention to alcohol related traffic deaths. Vermont ENCARE received Highway Safety grant monies again to help support these programs.
• Barb Wagner and her team of ENPC and TNCC instructors provide courses around the state.
• Quarterly Meetings were held on the first Wednesday of February, May and August. The fourth meeting is typically held the evening before the annual education day in November. This year we added a March meeting due to the weather in February. There was a storm the day of that meeting as well. We also added an October meeting this year. Gifford Medical Center in Randolph has proven to be a good central location. Our typical schedule is: Nurse Managers Forum 9a-11a, Education Program 1100-1200, Lunch, followed by the Council meeting.
• President Elect Matt Choate and Treasurer Joyce Guillemette attended the State Leaders Orientation Program last December and plan to attend again this year.
• Vermont was recognized for our Nurse Managers Initiatives. June Stacey was asked to present our program at the State Leaders Conference in Hawaii. Our Nurse Manager Forum is evidently quite unique and has been very well attended, with a majority of Vermont’s hospitals represented at each meeting. This opportunity to network, share problems, solutions and ideas is a valuable resource.
• The annual Nurse Managers Dinner was held on November 6 (the night before the November Ed Day). ED Managers and ENA Council members were invited. It was another good opportunity to network with colleagues.
• Vermont has continued to support ENAF (ENA’s Scholarship Foundation).
o We participated in the State Challenge and surpassed the goal of contributing a least a dollar for every Vermont ENA member.
o Vermont ENA donated a hand painted pin and earring set by a Vermont Artist
to the ENAF jewelry auction.
• Maureen Heyder was the recipient of the Joan Hartley Scholarship.
• Matt Choate joined other State Government Affairs Committee chairs at a January workshop in Washington.
• We have recruited Committee Chairs for Practice, Government Affairs and SANE.
• The ENA Washington Update and the Weekly Digest is distributed via email to those Vermont ENA members that we have emails addresses for. We are continuing efforts to update our email list.
• Connecticut hosted the New England Regional Symposium this spring in Mystic, CT
The 2009 NERS will be in Providence, RI from April 29 to May 1. Vermont will host the 2010 NERS. We are in the preliminary planning stages and are looking at possible locations, events, topics, speakers, and lots more.
